Archives For COMPANIES

Wow 20 years passed already.  Nice detailed look at humor in games and our old MDK game done by George Ayres Mousinho from The Reactive Code.  I think the theme of the Shiny games were that we always had a new hook (Sniper Mode in MDK, Possession in Messiah, etc.), and we tried to make it hard to predict what was coming next.  What was the next level of Earthworm Jim going to be?

The art that Nick Bruty and Bob Stevenson did for MDK was incredible for it’s time and the 3D coding lead was Andy Astor, who sadly passed away from Cancer.  He was a great loss to the video game industry.

So 20 years ago this was Shiny Entertainment’s first attempt at 3D…

Shockingly (according to Good Old Games) MDK still works in Windows 10!

Arduboy Arrived

February 22, 2016 — 2 Comments

Super excited to get my new Arduboy from Kickstarter. Besides being incredibly cool I think it will be amazing for education (future game coders and Arduino fans.)

I’m stoked to have #1 hot off the presses!

This post is in support of Josef Juricek (team member’s son), who has volunteered to shave his head for The American Cancer Society (to aid Hope Lodge in Kansas City.)

That WAS a nice head of hair!

He’s back again this year to do it again!

Kojima-san

December 16, 2015 — 2 Comments

At the launch of Video Games Live at the Hollywood bowl I was asked to join a group of people to sign autographs.  Beside me was Hideo Kojima and Stan Lee (Spiderman/Marvel etc.)   After some time the line ran out for Stan Lee (a legend in the comic industry) but Kojima-san still had a LONG LINE of people wanting him to autograph everything they had on them.

Stan leaned back and said to me “WHO IS THIS GUY?

He’s Kojima and he’s one of the most respected video game directors of all time.  I have to congratulate Andy House for signing his next project exclusively on consoles for PlayStation.

Enjoy the video…

Electric Playground Interview

November 17, 2015 — 1 Comment

I remember when Victor first started Electric Playground…  25 years later they are turning up some of the old interviews.  (As you can tell we had a lot of fun doing this kind of stuff.)

This interview with Tommy Tallarcio was for a game called Wild 9 that we were developing at the time.

Fun chat that Nick recorded for his First Wonder Kickstarter campaign.
