Had a fun time at Eureka Fest 2015.  They’ve posted an interview of my fireside chat on stage with Eureka Founder Peter Polydor.

Cloud Gaming Conference

September 27, 2015 — Leave a comment

Just arrived in San Francisco for the Cloud Gaming Conference.

Popping over to TechShop this afternoon.

I really love the idea of Thunderclap, where you get your social network to agree to support a project or idea, then ALL the accounts are timed to tweet/post at the same time to create a Thunderclap of interest/press.

A friend (Nick Bruty of Rogue Rocket games) is giving it a try with his new game “First Wonder” and I’m supporting him to see how well it works.

Join me!

TED Speech for the Month

September 18, 2015 — Leave a comment

I go to the TED conference each year and I will try to take the time to put more of the really surprising talks into my blog, to save you having to work through hundreds to find them.

One time Tony Robbins was asked to speak, I can’t remember if he was on the planned list or an impromptu addition but he delivered a very memorable speech which ended with a standing ovation.  One thing to notice was just how brilliantly he got himself extra time to speak, which is almost impossible at TED.  It’s a great glimpse of the artform of public speaking.

Super excited to support the OpenROV team.  I’ve been following them since they started and really like the design of the new Trident underwater drone.

Recreated ZX Spectrum

I ordered the Recreated ZX Spectrum and it’s in the mail, can’t WAIT to try it out!  (I was one of the Kickstarter backers.)  The ZX Spectrum (thanks to Sir Clive Sinclair) was a MAJOR boost to my career and it’s awesome to see it being brought back in a really smart way.  (It’s a Bluetooth keyboard so you can touch/feel the original device, but it will run any game instantly through an emulator on all mobile devices.)

The device is here:

The games are here (remember this is INCREDIBLY retro stuff):

Drone Law

September 16, 2015 — Leave a comment

I started flying/building quadcopters REALLY early, so I got to enjoy them before all these laws started to show up.  Now there’s so much abuse this amazing hobby is in crisis.

I’d hoped the AMA would save us, and to their credit they are trying, but their true user base is people flying planes / helicopters and they care most if the endless new inbound drone laws will impact those planes / helicopters.

It’s magical when you’re flying first person view (seeing the world from a different perspective) and some fog rolls in below you.

I’ve found them incredibly reliable and safe.  I’ve flown about 5 over the last few years and none have ever had an accident or issue.

See infographic below.  (Click to enlarge.)
