Andre LaMothe blew me away when he decided one day to make his own game console from scratch, the XGameStation, and then write a gigantic book that would teach you how to make one yourself (starting with the basics of electronics!)
It was such a big challenge I thought he would need to go lay on a beach for a year, but no, he’s back, with an even faster more powerful console. This time it’s called the Hydra.
Here’s some screenshots of demos from the users: HERE.
The big difference is that this is not for playing games on (though you can) the idea is you learn how to make games, the exact same way all the veteran game developers did when they started their careers.
Meaning you get to understand how the hardware actually works. If you want to become the Jedi master at this, he even teaches a course online.
The course is here.
It’s an incredible gift to the gaming community to make an open-source console and it’s a fantastic educational tool.
I highly recommend it and I can’t wait to see what’s next!
