Next ZX Spectrum

October 18, 2016 — 3 Comments

I’m really surprised to be typing that there’s going to be a new ZX Spectrum, it’s been FOREVER since my career really took off developing games for the original one.  My big break was the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (called the Hero Turtles in the UK), that gave me a #1 Hit and plenty of work followed.

It’s now a museum piece of hardware and so I must admit I’m excited to see this team making a new one, it’s a retro dream!  (Heck, it even looks cool!)

They have a surprise in the FAQ that it will run ZX81 games as well.  Are you kidding?

I just signed up for their newsletter…  Will be interesting to see it develop.

Reblogged this on "DESTROY ALL FANBOYS!" and commented:
Well, wow. As someone who’s wanted to dip a toe into programming and yes, play Speccy games (we never got this console in the west), this is quite a great thing.

I love that the site notes this new Spectrum isn’t set to be a boutique-priced braggart collectible at all, but an actual functioning computer made to make and play Speccy games old and new. Excellent.

    Thanks, Dave! 😀

My neighbor worked at the Timex factory when I was 4. He brought us a ZX81 to settle a bill he owed.

My dad didn’t know what to do with it so he gave it to me and my brother.

35.years on I’ve worked on 50+ commercial games and Lord knows how many ones just for fun.

The latest one I’m working on is really cool.
Richard Dawkins: Evolution… Can’t wait to launch the Kickstarter… Never done a Kickstarter before… Feels like gaming equivalent of going on Stage.
